Legacy in 2025

I'm pleased to say that this year was much more productive than the last one...but since I didn't work on the game for most of 2023, that was inevitable.  I try to do these recaps every December, but you may not know that given that all my past blogs and this game's old page vanished after rpgmaker.net went down. Not sure when or if that will be resolved, but for now this is Legacy's home and I hope it helps some folks discover the game. Here's some of what got done this year.

-In terms of the main story,  I completed Days 11, 12, and 13. It might not sound like much at first but managing this game's calendar can be challenging in terms of making sure everything is happening when it should. I keep hoping that I'll get to a point where most of the mapping is done and I can laser focus on simply advancing the plot, but I'm not there yet.

-On that note, two new outdoor areas are mostly complete. The Great Swamp has a finished exterior, numerous interior areas, several enemies, and a number of quests taking place there. I also got a lot done with the Highlands, a huge two part area that takes up the entire northern portion of the world map. Exteriors are done and some of the interiors, but I need to finish that and plug in the enemies (I picked battlers for them but that's about it). This area will be a major area of focus in the next year since it's integral to the plot.

-I also wanted to add some content to areas that have been done for a while now, particularly Azure Bay. One new sidequest will take you way out onto the sea and I'm excited for people to see it.

-Then there's the journalism quest. Good lord, did this thing take on a life of its own. It's done entirely in the city as the local news reporter stops by to interview Bradley's mother (she's running for council, remember?) and offers Bradley the chance to help interview the other candidates. You can pick any section of Gallia (except East cause conflict of interest, duh) and then you have to find the two candidates running for the council seat and ask some questions. It sounds easy but I still had to write 8 conversations where they are asked these questions and try to have each answer be a little unique. Not to mention that all the conversations change quite a bit if you bring along a classmate who is directly represented by these folks (i.e. Blaze for the North Gallia report).  It took AGES and there's a bit of irony in knowing that the vast majority of players will only see about 25% of the work that went into it. That's more or less this game's production in a nutshell, though.

-Bradley and the others will begin to unlock the next tier of their magic training on Day 14. There are two options for each school of magic, so I had some fun trying to give each specialization its own identity and come up with some unique spells for each one. A handful of people have said that so far the spells seemed similar regardless of which element you picked and it kinda had to be that way for the sake of balance, but this is the point where they will really start to diverge. Most of those spells are ready, although I will need help with a handful of the more ambitious ones. I'm even planning on extending the next build into Day 16 to make sure everyone gets a chance to play around with them.

So about that next build. The Day 10 version has been out since 2022, believe it or not. Working on this game is as slow as ever, but I feel fairly confident that if I keep a good schedule, a new and longer version is possible for sometime in the second half of the year. More updates as we get closer! Peace bros and enjoy the holidays!

Considering your background in journalism, I can 100% believe that quest taking on a life of its own. I'm very excited for it!!

And no matter how long it takes, at least you're getting a little done bit by bit!
